Choosing a career path is one of the most important decisions high school learners will make in their life. This is especially challenging for kids who have learning difficulties. A learning difficulty does not mean that a learner cannot succeed in a challenging career. In fact, neurodivergent learners are more than capable of excelling in most professions. However, their brains do function differently and they will have to find the correct learning system to take up a career path that is best for them. Whilst many kids can simply go to a career expo at the local college and choose what interests them, neurodivergent learners and their parents have alot more to consider. Finding the right career is a more involved process and Hillcrest Collegiate knows this.

The team at Hillcrest Collegiate help each child find the right career fit, one that matches their unique personality and strengths. The school carefully evaluates a learner’s interests, nature and capability so that they can direct the learner toward a career that will be best for them. Learners are encouraged to acquire the skills they need to succeed in their future career. Hillcrest Collegiate wants learners to pursue a career that they will love and thrive in. This stems from the belief that doing what we love will surely lead to excellence.

One of the recourses the school utilizes to evaluate their learners is the Myers Briggs personality test. In addition to this, staff at the school take the time to get to know each child as an individual and assess their talents, temperament and skills. One of the school’s core beliefs is that a learner who is encouraged to develop skills that are intuitive to their personality type is more likely to succeed than a learner who is encouraged to do something that is opposed to their personality type which they may hate.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality test is a questionnaire that evaluates how people perceive the world and make decisions. There are 16 different personality types according to MBTI.
